Science cl help! diffusion, osmosis etc.?

we are learning all about osmosis and diffusion in science. Our textbook definition of concentration gradient is :a difference in concentration of a substance between two areas. I researched concentration gradient, and I found another Definition: when there is an uneven distribution of a substance across a border. Which one is correct (or do they both mean the same thing..?) thank you!
