How to i turn on my imac osx lepord? please answer. worth alot of points.?

the problem is that it does turn on, but it stays at the blue screen for ever! the chime works, even the fan, but the desktop wont show up.(maybe because i downloaded so many programs, i do have 60 gigs left) so help, this is worth alot of points. im new to this.
