My betta died in my 5g tank do i need to clean the tank to add new fish?

its was sittin at the bottom of the tank by the heater came to eat wen i fed it then went bck dwn and died. does ne one know what happen. and it also looks like it had fin rot a little. but what other fish can i put in there other than another betta???
